I am using a trick from "Jap's" site, translated. If you use this trick, and repack an added base, such as we did, and use it like a patch secondary, your game will run much more fluid, with no where near the skips, chops, and crashes due to errors. Follow if you want, but use your head, and much caution, and always back-up.
I want to be loaded by default, placed in the file, such as where you want to install the skin and MOD. It is an effective method for the following cases. • Do not want to put the files in the My Documents want always-put, the file is deleted or does not intend to open it in Notepad or init.cfg in which it is installed. We will continue to write a string similar to this to the bottom line mount-o ro, from p1 "data.scs" /
If you put in a comment, write a # at the beginning of the comment. For example, you would be: if you want to load a file called ABC.scs. mount-o ro, p4 "ABC.scs" / p4 I think that is in front of it ABC.scs is probably to read the order or priority. So, you are like I should be (and later four) number that is not used. This happens if you create a directory (folder) that you want to install the mod, put the file in it. mount-o ro, p4 "mod / ABC.scs" / file to load is summarized in the ZIP file. The extension is OK even be left SCS ZIP. (I think those who have good compression saves space since the HDD) compression, it may be either uncompressed as the compression method. Mount-O ro, p4 "mod / abc.zip" / Mount-O ro, p5 "mod / DEF.Zip" / Mount-O ro, p6 "mod / GHI.Zip" /

WARNING! Before attempting only do this if you at least know how to install an add on truck. OTHERWISE DO NOT ATTEMPT!! I take no responsability if this crashes your game, PC, whatever. ALSO from here on out caps are not shouts. just key points to pay attention to. let's begin:
I'll break that down, as best I can.
1. On your desktop create a new .zip file.
2. Open it.
3. Click Add
4. Select ONLY these folders. Everything BUT Screenshots, Music, Saves. DO NOT ADD the files. In other words select all folder. not the config.cfg, prism.log, etc. ONLY FOLDERS.
5. SAVE AS MEDIUM COMPRESSION!!!!!!! Select only the middle choice.
6. rename to base2.scs (WARNING you may need to go to folder options and turn ON show known file types)
7. Put in whatever drive/program files/18 wos pedal to the metal
8. go to whatever drive/program files/18 wos pedal to the metal.
9. open init.cfg
10. add BELOW patch1.07 this line:
mount -o ro,p4 "base2.scs" /
IF YOU CANNOT, OR DO NOT, know how to change to "known file types" leave it as .zip and add this line:
mount -o ro,p4 "base2.zip" /
RENAME YOUR MY DOCUMENTS/ 18 wos pedal to the metal folder to something like "18 WoS Pedla To The Metal Backup"
Run the game.
If it crashes POST THE ERROR LINES from your prism3d.log file here. I'll see what I can do to help.
WARNING: THIS WILL NOT WORK ON WINDOWS 8!!! I will post a walkthrough once I, myself, figure out how to do this
What's achieved:
A much smoother game. Even HIGH POLY models load much smoother this way. the game runs better when reading from the prog files folder then a mess from the my docs folder. I have achieved, on avg, 20fps better and less crashes this way. with IVANS pipes flatbed and POLARSEXPRESS' W900 (a total of 300,000 polys!) and AI trucks passin me. So in closing it makes the game run much smoother
Enjoy

Got to admit, it never crossed my mind either. Always thought once you extracted that was it, the game ran off them files. Never thought you could repack it together for smoothness.
Good post fellas.

yea repackin it makes a world of difference. hell even the graphics look better. I mean BETTER. try somethin simple. Give this example a try. follow it step by step, so no problems arise. This WILL NOT hurt your current game if you follow exactly. Also backup the base.scs so incase you do it wrong, or you wanna make changes, you have a default to go back to 1. Rename your my docs/ 18WoS Pedal to the Medal folder to "18WoS Pedal to the Medal before" 2. Start the game up. (dont play it. just click play. load the main menu, then exit) 3. Extract your base.scs to my docs like usual (startin the game before created a new folder in the my docs) (dont worry about the patch scs. just the base) 4. go here www.scr-rigs.com/ and download his reflections mod 5. Put smarty's reflections in your game. 6. Repack the base.scs 7. Tell me if you dont see a HUGE difference, versus keepin it in the my docs folder. Hell my windshields, from inside, are now somewhat glossy, and have sunglare. lol 8. Rename your WoS PttM before folder back. now you have everything back again. The 'Ol 'Dog

ours (outlaw & i's) will be uploaded when complete. it'll be a big file tho. Meantime I need to know 3 things please. 1. What system are you running? win 7? win 8? XP? 2. what program did you use to zip it? it has to be a zip, not a rar. if usin WinRAR make sure you selected create new .zip not new .rar 3. lastly turn on write log file, and try to run it again. post only the last few lines from the prism3d.log. (can be found in my docs, pttm folder. use notepad) I'm sure your aware how to do the log Jesse. But let this also stand as a basis for others. if your havin a problem with this solution I need to know the above 3 to be of any help EDIT: Also I have noticed that sometimes you will have to do the following: once repacked, as stated above, rename it base2 and add to init.cfg. have you tried that route?

When I started trying to build this fictional map I'm working on, I needed to create about 30 new cities, which was no problem. However, I found out that by adding the new city def files to My Docs, the game still showed the default cities in the selection list when starting the game. It also showed them in the notebook planning page, but that was easy to fix by changing the X and Y settings so they didn't even show on the map. But having them show up in the selection list was driving me crazy. What I finally figure out was that using 7zip, I could open the base.scs file ( not unpack it - but open it). I could then add, delete or edit any file I wanted to. I managed to delete all the default city def files and add my own. Plus I could change all the road names to names I wanted, without the default road names getting in the way. Now, whenever I make any changes, I just open the custom base.scs file, edit, add, or delete whatever I need to, close it and everything is like I want it. Just throwing this out for information purposes.
